Dr. William Miller, NTS Dean for Administration, has accepted a position with the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada (ATS – www.ats.edu) as Director, Accreditation and Institutional Evaluation. At NTS, Dr. Miller has distinguished himself through his long tenure—1978 to the present—by holding a number of positions. In addition to his duties as Dean for Administration, Dr. Miller currently serves as Curator for the Library, Director of Institutional Research and Assessment, and Professor of Theological Bibliography. Dr. Miller holds an A.B. from Indiana Wesleyan University, Masters level degrees from Kent State University, Central Baptist Theological Seminary, MidAmerica Nazarene University, Nashotah House and a Ph.D. from Kent State University. Dr. Miller currently resides in Olathe, KS with his wife Brenda.
Regarding Dr. Miller’s contributions to NTS, President Ron Benefiel shared the following: “William Miller has made a lasting contribution to Nazarene Theological Seminary. He is a man of many talents which he has used to strengthen the effective operation of the seminary. Through his efforts, our library is a model theological library, our financial strength is at an all time high, our technology is up-to-date and effective, and our buildings and grounds have been significantly improved. Dr. Miller has made significant contributions in the classroom, teaching courses ranging from theology to church administration. He has also assisted the seminary with incorporating dynamic strategic planning into the ongoing life of the institution. Needless to say, he will be greatly missed. Our prayers go with him as he accepts his new assignment with the Association of Theological Schools.”
At ATS, Dr. Miller will direct the association's accreditation processes. ATS is recognized by the United States Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation for accrediting graduate schools of theology. ATS works cooperatively with regional accrediting associations in the United States, conducting approximately thirty comprehensive visits and thirty focused visits to member schools in a given year.
Though he will step down as Administrative Dean this fall, Dr. Miller will still be a part of NTS’ adjunct faculty. Dr. Marty Butler will take over as Dean for Administration in August 2005.
