AmeriCorps VISTA one year service-learning position

Become an AmeriCorps*VISTA member and help implement service-learning at Rockhurst University by building partnerships and mobilizing resources that connect students and communities in service to the common good.  Develop valuable resume-building networking, outreach, and leadership skills in the process.

Specific duties

  • Assist in strengthening strategic community partnerships
  • Identify community needs that can be filled by Rockhurst students
  • Work with faculty to integrate service into portions of the Rockhurst curriculum
  • Assist in the recruitment, training, and supporting students, faculty, and community agencies in service-learning
  • Plan and implement service events with campus and community organizations
  • Other related duties as assigned

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge about service-learning
  • Interest in low-income and poverty issues
  • Strong interest in social justice issues

 Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 18 years of age or older
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Driver’s license preferred
  • Professional references

AmeriCorps*VISTA members serve full-time, for one year with varying work hours and receive a modest living allowance, health benefits, relocation expenses, student loan forbearance, childcare assistance, and travel reimbursement.  Rockhurst University will provide a modest rent allowance,   Upon completion of service, members choose between an education award of $4,725 or a cash stipend of $1,200, and receive non-competitive eligibility for federal employment.   Rockhurst University and AmeriCorps are equal opportunity organizations.
